|
|
One of the duties of the outgoing Kingdom Arts and Sciences Champion is to create a piece of regalia for the kingdom. I chose to make mantles for their majesties displaying the arms of the king and the arms of the queen. This project was completed in July 2007. More pictures of the mantles can be found here.
The mantles are semi circles in blue jacquard striped fabric and trimmed in yellow brocade. The mantles are fully lined with the same yellow brocade that edges the front. Each mantle has seven different types of trim.
The arms are appliqued cream brocade and finished with trim. For the king's mantle the leaves are drawn by hand and graduated in size. The roses on the queen's mantle were pattered from a heraldic clipart page. I chose the braid for the wreath stems due to its inherent flexibility. The braid easily maintained the curve without puckering. |
